Business name versus trademark

Registering a business name allows an organization to operate under that name in a jurisdiction. It is not the same process as registering a Canadian trademark.

Why the distinction matters

Business registries and CIPO serve different purposes. A business-name registration does not itself decide whether use conflicts with trademark rights.

A practical sequence

Search before investing heavily, understand related products and services, then decide whether an application fits the business plan.
